4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Reading

4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Reading
We may have read lots of books and maybe have bought some of them. Reading is one of the means of getting knowledge and that includes reading Quran.

We are asked to seek knowledge but in the meantime, we are advised not to waste time. As humans, we aren’t supposed to be wasting time and that includes when reading. There’s still a fragment of time wasted while flipping through the pages.

So, here are some of the ways that I can think of which may be worthy of your consideration:

1. Making sure of the content.

Books are plenty and we simply can’t deny that fact. Different books serve for different messages. You may have encountered two books which literally discuss about the exact same thing but then, you may get attached more to the other one. In making sure of the content, one simply has to know the author(s). Some of the authors are famous and so, their shared thoughts through their writings may be of greater ease for us to digest. Simply because the authors are formerly trained and mindfully set to do that.

It is also important for us to be able to predict the messages the authors wish to convey. Our predicted messages don’t have to be accurate. This will help us by setting par of what we’ll truly get from the reading.

2. Mark the chapters and remember the important events in those chapters

This would be very advisable to the slow paced readers. Because wasting time, as aforementioned, is not good.

3. Check the glossary for unknown terms

It’s important to know what meaning each term brings. I would advise this one to those reading rather technical, scientific, fictional, or scholarly books. You may get lost in thoughts if you just keep on reading without knowing some important terms.

Unless the book you read has no glossary, you’ll probably have to put a hold on your reading and go online to surf for their meanings. Nevertheless, that’s not entirely advisable as you may catch yourself into online surfing rather than reading.

4. Discuss

This would be the most vital of all. And probably will get you excited the most once you try it. One thing that’s good about discussion is that it depicts the versatility of the writer himself. One may picture a concept different from the other person. While the true concept may be left undetermined in two persons’ discussion, what’s more important is that you get a better understanding.

From my writings, I may have the answers you’ve searched for. And I may not. In other words, these 4 alternatives are just my suggestions. So, put on your nerdy spectacles and start rejoicing! Cheers all. Assalamualaikum 🙂
